The Volkswagen Bus

We buy, restore, and sell Volkswagen Buses — split-window and bay-window Type 2s, including the rare Brazilian-built Kombis — and stock the parts to keep them running.

What it is

Fifty-six years of the same good idea.

The Brazilian Volkswagen Bus is the VW Type 2 — the Kombi — built in São Bernardo do Campo from 1957 all the way to 2013. While Germany retired the Bus and moved on, Brazil kept building it, refining it, and selling it by the hundreds of thousands. No country made the VW Bus longer.

That endurance is exactly why the Brazilian Bus matters today. Decades of continuous production left behind a deep pool of vehicles and parts — including the prized early split-window models that command the most attention from collectors worldwide.

Overland Imports hunts the finest Brazilian Kombis at the source, handles the full Volkswagen Bus restoration ourselves, and imports them into the United States under full federal compliance — US-titled and ready for the next chapter.

Why import from Brazil

The best place on earth to find a Kombi.

01

Deeper supply

The longest production run anywhere means more survivors and a richer parts network than the US or Europe.

02

Dry, kind climate

Much of Brazil is gentle on sheet metal — the right bus can be remarkably solid underneath.

03

Sourced by us

We buy directly from Brazilian sellers and restorers — no brokers between you and the bus's real history.

Common questions

Brazilian Volkswagen Bus FAQ.

A Brazilian Volkswagen Bus is a VW Type 2 (Kombi) built in Brazil, where Volkswagen produced the model from 1957 until 2013 — far longer than Germany. Brazilian production includes the desirable early split-window buses and later air- and water-cooled versions.

Brazil kept the Kombi in production for over five decades, so surviving examples — especially split-window models — are plentiful relative to elsewhere and rich in originality. They offer the iconic VW Bus look with a uniquely Brazilian production history.

Yes. Buses 25 years and older are exempt under the federal 25-year rule. We source, restore, and import Brazilian VW Buses under full federal compliance and deliver them US-titled. See our Volkswagen Bus importation page.

The split-window (or "splitty") is the first-generation Type 2, recognizable by its divided V-shaped windshield. It is the most collectible VW Bus body style, and Brazil built them into the 1970s. Learn more on our split-window Volkswagen Bus page.
